What is MetaFormation and Why do we exist?
Me•ta: An awareness of a higher state, often signifying change
Form•at•ion: The action or process of giving shape to something
MetaFormation literally means ‘the higher awareness of heart beliefs that shape transformational change’. It’s a look at how personal transformation actually happens and how it is reproduced. MetaFormation pulls aside the curtain of religious assumptions about change to discover Jesus’ way of transformation.
Typically, when we set out to change, we start with a behavior we don’t like, and use self-discipline to alter what we do. Our typical way of change starts on the outside, focused on something negative, which depends on us to make the change. Jesus’ way is the exact opposite: he begins on the inside, his focus is on the positive thing he is giving us (filling our deepest desires inside our relationship with him), and his process doesn’t depend on our discipline but his gift. For Jesus, changed behavior is produced by desire fulfilled in relationship with Him. This ‘form of formation’— an inside-out way of change — is as powerful as it is unfamiliar. Like Apostle Paul, … “we are in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you!” (Galations 4:19)
MetaFormation immerses you in this radically different way of transformation. Since Jesus’ method is relational and experiential, so is ours. Instead of a talking-head lecturer, we employ activations, live demos, peer practice and waves of creative God encounters to rewire your brain. Then we equip you with the tools and coaching skills you need to introduce others to Jesus’ change process – it is something we call Encounter CoachingⓇ .
MetaFormation's Vision
To train 100,000 leaders worldwide by 2040 to live, lead and coach from the heart.
If each leader only touches 10 people with the Encounter Coaching skills they learn, we will have reached 1 million people. More likely, each leader will reach at least 100 people with Encounter Coaching, thereby reaching 10 million people and effectively changing our world and how people engage with Jesus.
Our Growing Mission
As we progressively move towards our long-term vision, our mission will evolve every few years reflecting our progress and an ever-changing world. From 2011 through 2024 we’ve trained over 1,000 people and have fully certified over 100 Encounter Coaches. In the last few years we’ve adjusted our training delivery to be virtual so that we can: a) reach a broader audience, b) stretch the training over a longer period for better learning retention, and c) reduce the overall cost by eliminating the need for overnight travel. We have also integrated Mentor Coaching into the training to ensure participants receive high-quality feedback on their coaching skills – all taken together we are producing higher competence and confident Encounter Coaches. However… We consistently receive feedback from our clients that they desire ongoing training and support to grow their relational influence using their newly acquired Encounter Coaching skills.
Moving forward, our mission will expand beyond delivery of Encounter Coach training to include the development of an Encounter Coach Community. Not only can we better support our trained coaches, we can leverage the community to more effectively invite new participants into our training programs.
All too often, Christian ministry organizations focus almost exclusively on the organization’s vision and will draw people able to meet their organizational goals. MetaFormation’s mission is to build a community of like-minded saints who have a vision for building the broader Kingdom of God. We recognize that each individual has a unique God-given gifting and destiny calling. We see our role at MetaFormation is to draw out those giftings so that as a community we can effectively equip, disciple, and support each member in their calling.
The Big Purpose for our community:
We bring together followers of Jesus who desire life-giving encounters with God, so that together we can personally grow in our intimacy with Jesus and lead others into a God-encounter lifestyle.
Our updated mission has the following three elements:
Build a loving, Jesus-centered community of saints for the purpose of equipping and supporting each member with the heart and skills embodied in Encounter Coaching so they can fulfill their heaven-destiny calling.
Deliver transformational encounter coach training so that our members are both competent and confident in their work / ministry within the broader Kingdom / Church.
Produce strong, sustainable growth for MetaFormation by developing a team of diverse, gifted leaders; and building processes that enable us to provide excellent support to our community.
